FINGERPRINT COLLATION DEVICE AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide fingerprint collation device and method capable of collating fingerprints at a high speed without the need of information other than a collation fingerprint even in the case of collating one collation fingerprint with many registered fingerprints. SOLUTION: The fingerprint collation device is provided with a core/feature point extraction means 30 for extracting the core and feature point of the fingerprint read from a fingerprint sensor means 30 and a fingerprint collation means 40 for collating the registered fingerprint and the collation fingerprint by using the extracted core/ feature point, and collates the collation fingerprint with many already registered fingerprints. The device is further provided with a fingerprint classifying means 1 for extracting only the fingerprints similar to the collation fingerprint from a plurality of the already registered fingerprints. The fingerprint classifying means is provided with a grid area analysis means 2, a feature point number calculation means 4 for calculating the number of the feature points present within two or more kinds of grid areas in different sizes, a score calculation means 5 for calculating similarity to the collation fingerprint as a score and a storage means 3. Comparison with a preset score threshold is performed and only the registered fingerprints whose scores are higher than the score threshold are extracted as collation objects.
