PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte for driving an electrolytic capacitor having low impedance, excellent low temperature characteristics and good lifetime characteristics and exhibiting an excellent hydrogen gas absorbing effect even when an electrolyte employing a mixture solvent having a high water content is used or when the electrolytic capacitor is used in a high temperature environment. SOLUTION: In the electrolyte containing a solvent and an electrolyte, the solvent is composed of 20-55.9 wt.% of organic solvent and 80-44.1 wt.% of water and the electrolyte is added with at least one kind of nitro compound wherein the specific resistance of the electrolyte is set not higher than 68Ω.cm.
