PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lengthen the service life of an organic EL display device by suppressing oxidization of an organic layer. SOLUTION: This organic EL display device X with an anode 2, the organic layer 3 and a cathode 4 laminated in this order on a transparent substitute 1 is constituted to emit light from the organic layer 3, after being transmitted through the anode 2 and the transparent substrate 2. In this constitution, the anode 2 is formed of a metallic material which is a non-oxide with a larger work function than the cathode 4, so as to have a thickness of 20 nm or less. The metallic material with the work function of 4.5 eV or more is used, and it is preferable to form the anode 2 so that the sheet resistance is 2.5Ωor less. Au, Ag or Cu is used as the metallic material.
