PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, device, and contents providing program to enable a user to download contents with high popularity at high speed and a recording medium in which a contents provision program is recorded. SOLUTION: In the method for providing the contents from a contents server 6 to users 1, 2 by way of a proxy server 3 via an IP network 5, characteristic configuration technique constituted by once storing the contents provided to the users 1, 2 in a cache memory 4 and simultaneously creating a contents list to indicate popularity such as access frequency 14 of the contents in the proxy server 3 is adopted.
