Feed supplement for altering milk fat profile

A method for altering the fatty acid profile of milk from female ruminant livestock to have desired proportions and/or types of fatty acids, wherein said method comprises feeding to the ruminant livestock, protected lipid having said desired proportions of fatty acids, such that about 60 to about 90 % of said protected lipid is capable of passing through the rumen undigested leaving about 60 to about 90 % of said protected lipid available for digestion post-ruminally.
