A device for compacting cancellous bone comprising a catheter tube having a distal end that extends along a first essentially linear axis, and a structure mounted about the distal end and comprising a body adapted to assume a collapsed geometry for deployment into bone and an geometry for compacting cancellous bone to form a cavity, the expanded geometry being oriented about a second essentially linear axis not aligned with the first essentially linear axis.
