PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information management system which can efficiently perform the management of image data and processing regarding the managed data in operations for handling a large amount of image data and to provide a transmission and reception sever, a data managing server, their control method, and a program. SOLUTION: A transmission and reception server 100 holds data received through a network 400 in an external storage device 101. According to the number of client terminals connected to a data managing server 103, the data held in the external storage device 101 are transmitted to the data managing server 103. The data managing server 103 manages the data held in the external storage device 101 by using a database 104 and updates the database 104 according to the transmitted data. Then retrieval from the database 104 is carried out based on retrieval condition sent from a client terminal.
