PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a turbo decoding control method and decoder by switching an addressing order for a memory used for turbo decoding in the forward and reverse directions so as to decrease number of cycles required for repetitive processing. SOLUTION: This invention computes beta state metrics for a sliding window and stores them in a scratch memory (1403) in a first addressing order, controls an addressing order for write and read of the scratch memory (1403) so that the addressing order is toggled between the 1st addressing order and a 2nd addressing order reverse to the 1st addressing order to read the beta state metrics, combines alpha state metrics in an extrinsic block with the beta state metrics, computes the beta state metric for a next sliding window and stores them. The addressing order is toggled for the next repetition until a frame of data is decoded.
