PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an imaging apparatus provided with an electronic viewfinder to attain automatic focusing by a phase difference detection system. SOLUTION: The image pickup device is provided with spectral means 21 to 23 that distributes a light from an object, a display use imaging device 11 that receives one of distributed lights by the spectral means 21 to 23 to generate an image signal to be displayed on an electronic viewfinder 3, a focusing use imaging device 12 that conducts focusing on the basis of a phase difference when the other light distributed by the spectral means 21 to 23 is exposed from a plurality of pixels through different exit pupils, and a synthesis means 4 that synthesizes image signals from the imaging devices 11, 12.
