PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline zinc battery which is excellent in both of heavy load discharge characteristic and storage characteristic. SOLUTION: In this alkaline zinc battery 1 which has a positive mix 3 containing beta nickel oxyhydroxide as a positive active material, a negative mix 5 using zinc as a negative active material, and an alkaline aqueous solution as an electrolyte, the positive mix 3 is a mixture of beta nickel oxyhydroxide, graphite power, and potassium hydroxide aqueous solution mixed in a ratio of 80:10:10. The beta nickel oxyhydroxide is prepared by chemical oxidation, has almost a globular particle shape, and has a BET specific surface area of 3-50 m<2> /g. Thereby, the alkaline zinc battery with excellent heavy load discharge characteristic and storage characteristic can be provided. |
