PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption of a large screen television receiver or the like at its start. SOLUTION: At application of power by an operation of power on by a power on/off key, a control section 10 activates a power supply section 7 and a timer section 8 and sets a gain of an AGC(automatic gain control) section 2a of a video processing means 2 and of contrast of a contrast section 2b on the basis of start state gain setting data and a start state contrast setting data stored in advance in a memory section 9 for a time when the timer section 8 counts time and darkens a display video image of a display section 3. After a time when the timer section 8 expires, the control section 10 restores the settings of the gain of the AGC section 2a and the contrast of the contrast section 2b to the original settings.
