The height of the peak(s) can vary from a few microns to several hundred microns, while the radius of curvature of its tip is less than 5 microns. The peaks, produced with the aid of a polymer droplet applied with a pipette (5), can be partially metallized, and are made by a procedure that allows a single peak or multiple peak to be made according to selected modes. The chemical composition of the peaks is adapted according to the required viscosity value and then heated or cooled to produce the desired height. The final radius of curvature is adjusted according to the intensity of the photo polymerizing light injected and the exposure time. The dimensions of the peaks can be adjusted for fibre-to-fibre couplings, or selected to give maximum coupling between a fibre and a laser diode.
