PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element with high light takeout efficiency. SOLUTION: This light emitting element with a first electrode, a luminous layer and a second electrode laminated and arranged on the surface of a substrate emits light emitted from the luminous layer, to the outside of a system from the second electrode side in an upper layer above the luminous layer. A lens with a diameter not less than 3/2 times of the width of the luminous layer, preferably not less than twice the width of the luminous layer, for converging light emitted from the luminous layer, to emit the light to the outside of the system is disposed at an upper layer further above the second electrode of the light emitting element.
