PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk device which performs recording and reproducing of high precision by suppressing an influence of a projecting lubricant coated on a magnetic disk. SOLUTION: A magnetic disk device which moves a floating magnetic head above the magnetic disk surface, having a surface coated with the lubricant to record and reproduce magnetic information, is provided with a flattening head which flattens a projecting part of the lubricant rising on the magnetic disk surface and a head movement control part which controls the moving speed of the flattening head, and the control of the head movement control part includes a lubricant flattening mode, in which the flattening head is moved at a speed lower than the moving speed of the magnetic head to flatten the projecting part of the lubricant at recording and reproducing.
