An emergency brake device(21)of an elevator,comprising a clamping metal(17)installed in the car of the elevator or on a counterbalance weight and having inclined surfaces(17a,17b)and a pressing surface(17c)provided so as to hold a guide rail(6),a pressing body(16)movably disposed between the inclined surfaces(17a,17b)of the clamping metal(17)and the guide rail(6),and a solenoid(11)receiving an electric input signal for operation,connected to the pressing body(16),and moving the pressing body(16)away from the guide rail(6)in normal operation and pressing the pressing body(16)in a clearance between the inclined surfaces(17a,17b)and the guide rail(6)in braking.
