The present invention relates to methods of monitoring UV-irradiation of and determining, as well as controlling, UV irradiation dosages received by a fluid containing at least one protein, which method comprises the step of monitoring the increase in absorbance which has a peak in the region from 305 to 325 nm, due to said UV-irradiation. The present invention also provides apparatus suitable for use in the methods of the invention.
