PURPOSE: A handover method in an IMT-2000 system is provided to reserve a bandwidth in consideration of the location, moving direction, moving speed and variable multimedia characteristic of a mobile station and to maintain QoS(Quality of Service) while reducing the frequency of handover generation. CONSTITUTION: An IMT-2000 system periodically estimates the location and direction of a mobile station(S101). The system confirms the service bandwidth of the mobile station(S102). The system estimates the speed of the mobile station(S103). In consideration of the location, moving direction and moving speed of the mobile station, the system grasps the handover type(S104). In case that the handover type is a hard handover, the system executes a hard handover(S105). In case that the handover type is a soft handover, the system stores a handover critical time in the handover reservation table queue of each base station in consideration of the location, moving direction and moving speed of the mobile station(S106). After storing a required traffic bandwidth based on a data characteristic in the handover reservation table of each base station, the system determines the traffic priority order(S107). The system executes the handover according to the determined traffic priority order(S108). After executing the handover, the system releases the handover reservation of a neighboring base station(S109).
