The adjuster for the system which transmits tension from a hand brake lever cable (2) to the brake cables (3, 4) comprises telescopic sleeves which fit over a pull rod (14). This passes through a compensating lever (13) and is pivoted on the transmission lever. The outer sleeve (31, 32) has annular grooves along its inner surface and the inner sleeve (21) has an annular outer groove (23) with a wedge-shaped section, a locking ring (61) fits in this, between the two sleeves. A compression spring (66) is mounted between the ends of the two sleeves. Slides mounted in two longitudinal grooves on the inner sleeve push the locking ring against the walls of the annular groove.
