As part of the present invention, there is a transmitter including a sequence generator to produce two or more substantially orthogonal sequences and two or more spreaders to spread a modulated data signal according to a sequence produced by the sequence generator. Each said spreader may use a sequence substantially orthogonal to a sequence used by the other spreader, and the modulated data signal spread by each spreader may be derived from a sub-channel that is a portion of a single data stream.
