FLUORINATION PROCESS

A fluorination process which comprises fluorinating an organic compound with an electrophilic fluorinating agent bearing an N−F bond in liquid carbon dioxide,supercritical carbon dioxide,liquid fluoroalkane,or supercritical fluoroalkane;and use of quaternary−nitrogen onium salts represented by the general formula(I),specifically by the general formula(II)in the above fluorination process as the electrophilic fluorinating agent:(I)(II)(wherein X− is a conjugate base of a Brensted acid).The above process makes it possible to conduct fluorination in a liquid medium such as liquid carbon dioxide easily and safely in high yield.
