Radially-adjustable tool slides (2) are each mechanically-connected to a weight (12), to compensate centrifugal force. The weight pivots about an axis (D) offset from the principal axis (R) of tool head rotation. The radius r' of the center of gravity (S) of the weight, subtends an angle with the radius (r) from axis (R) to axis (D). Gearing (14, 16) converts the swing of the compensating weight, into radial linear motion of the tool slide. Preferred Features: The axes (R, D) are mutually parallel. The gearing comprises toothed wheels. The compensating weight alternatively includes at least a toothed segment and the tool slide has a rack meshing with it. Further tool slide(s) are coupled with the first to produce corresponding convergent radial motions. Various couplings and drive gearing working in accordance with the foregoing principles are described.
