The invention relates to a catalyst for the selective oxidation and ammoxidation of alkanes and/or alkenes particularly in processes for obtaining acrylic acid, acrylonitrile and the derivatives thereof. The inventive catalyst comprises at least one oxide, preferably a calcined mixed oxide, Mo, Te, V, Cu and at least one other compound A which is selected from Nb, Ta, Sn, Se, W, Ti, Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, Ga, Sb, Bi, a rare earth, an alkaline or alkaline-earth metal. In the calcined form, the X-ray diffractogram of said catalyst comprises five intense diffraction lines, typically the most intense, corresponding to diffraction angles 2 theta of 22.1<u>+</u>0.4; 27.1<u>+</u>0.4; 28.1<u>+</u>0.4; 36<u>+</u>0.4 y 45.1<u>+</u>0.4. According to a preferred production method, the catalyst has empirical formula: MoTehViCujAkOx, wherein h, i, j, k denote values of between 0.001 and 4 and x is dependent on the oxidation state or the valency of elements Mo, Te, V, Cu and A. |
