Compounds represented by the general formula(I)or salts thereof:(I)[wherein R1 is hydrogen,optionally substituted C1−C10 alkyl,or an N−protecting group;R2 is optionally substituted C1−C10 alkyl or optionally substituted C2−C10 alkenyl;R3 and R4 are each independently hydrogen or a hydroxyl−protecting group;X is−N(R5)R6 or a residue derived from the amino group of an amino acid or a peptide(wherein R5 and R6 are each independently hydrogen,optionally substituted C1−C10 alkyl,or optionally substituted C3−C12 cycloalkyl);and Y is hydrogen,−CH2NH2,−CONH2,or−COOH].The compounds are useful as specific inhibitors against sugar chain related enzymes including glycosyltransferase and glycosidase,and effective in treatment or prevention of diseases in which sugar chain related enzymes participate.
