[Also in Division D1] The commencement of knitting of each yarn fed to the needles of a circular multifeed machine occurs substantially at the same place so that the slight stepped effect which occurs in a tubular fabric when commencing knitting on a multifeed machine is confined to one small portion of its circumference, Fig. 2 (not shown). Subsequent tailoring to produce undergarments such as knickers enables the stepped portion 10 to be hidden by being included in a seam between a gusset strip 15 and edges formed by cuts 13 or cut out from the fabric completely by cuts 22 to accommodate the gusset strip. The gusset strip is knitted with ends substantially like the welt 1 of the knickers, Fig. 4 (not shown). In a garment such as a slip the stepped portion on the bottom edge is covered by a tab or label. |
