PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device wherein uniform brightness can be obtained using a small number of backlights. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device having a liquid crystal display panel displaying an image, a diffusion plate provided on the back of the liquid crystal display panel and diffusing incident light to uniformly illuminate the liquid crystal display panel and point light sources provided at the side face of the diffusion plate and illuminating the liquid crystal display panel with light diffused in the diffusion plate, at least one of the point light sources is disposed so that the optical axis of the point light source is oblique to the side of the diffusion plate.
