PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink set which is excellent in color development, is effectively prevented from bleeding, exhibits an improved fixability even in forming a colored part by using a plurality of liquids, and hence can give a high-quality ink jet record; a method for forming a colored part on a recording medium; and an ink jet recording apparatus. SOLUTION: An ink set is provided which comprises an anionic or cationic aqueous ink containing a colorant and a liquid composition which is used for forming a colored part on a recording medium by applying it together with the aqueous ink to the medium. The aqueous ink contains at least one salt in addition to the colorant. The liquid composition contains fine particles dispersed therein and having surfaces electrostatically charged in reverse polarity. A method for forming a colored part on a recording medium and an ink jet recording apparatus are also provided.
