PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of driving a paper cutter which can quickly process an error by promptly discovering this error even when the error of cutting inferiority or the like is generated in the halfway of cutting paper. SOLUTION: In this method of driving a paper cutter, a number of error decision reference steps Y larger than a number of steps of a motor 30 constituted by a stepping motor when a carriage 24 is moved from a home position H to a movement end position S in a condition without interposing paper 11 between a fixed blade 18 and a rotary blade 20 are previously set, the motor 30, at each rotation of a step X while repeatedly giving a drive pulse corresponding to the step X which is a prescribed number of steps, while compares stepsΣX which are the total steps of the steps X with the number of error decision reference steps Y, and when a relation isΣX<Y, cutting of the paper 11 is continued till a detection sensor 26 is turned on.
