PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling means capable of efficiently cooling the internal part of a flameproof enclosure when the flameproof enclosure includes an electric device, generating heat, at the internal part of a flameproof enclosure, and entirely not induces explosion even when the enclosure is used in explosive atmosphere. SOLUTION: A cooling device for flameproof enclosure comprises the flameproof enclosure 2 having a built-in electric device 4 generating heat; an external space to surround the flameproof enclosure 2; an evaporator 6 situated at the internal part of the flameproof enclosure 2; and a condenser 8 situated at the external part of the flameproof enclosure 2. When a temperature difference between the internal and external parts is high, the flameproof enclosure 2 can be cooled without any power. When the temperature is reduced to a low value, an external fan is situated to increase condensing efficiency. Further, when an external part is not air-conditioned and the temperature difference between the internal and external parts is reduced to zero or reversed, a compressor 42 is connected between a condenser 8 and the evaporator 6 and the interior of the flameproof enclosure can be forcibly cooled.
