Nonwoven with high liquid absorbency and three-dimensional regular pattern, process for producing the same and applications

A three-dimensional fibrous structure with regular corrugations has a liquid absorbency of at least 5 g per g of surface weight and a thickness of at least 0.8 mm. It has outer pile layers (1, 2) welded to a central surface layer (7) that has been shrunk. The welds (5) are in a regular linear pattern and run perpendicular to the direction of greatest shrinkage. The pattern can be continuous or discontinuous, e.g. in regular hexagons. An Independent claim is also included for the process of laying down the pile layers and surface layers and joining them by welding in a linear pattern by heat and calender pressure or ultrasonically. The assembly is then heated to shrink the surface layers and form a structure with alternating recesses that can hold liquid. Specifically claimed is the application as wet wiping cloths, liquid dispenser for liquid application of medicines or cosmetics.
