Axially compressible bearing for a windscreen wiper mechanism

The bearing consists of a housing (12) equipped with a compressible section which allows it to be fitted in place. The housing is made from a plastics material with the compressible section formed by an elastomer ring (42) surrounded by a cylindrical sleeve (40) of a plastics material made in one piece with the housing and able to deform when the ring is compressed axially. The bearing housing has seals (44,46) at each end between the housing and shaft, and at least one of the seals can be made at the same time and from the same material as the compressible elastomer ring, with the latter also acting as a seal. The housing and elastomer ring can be simultaneously injected.
