PURPOSE: A method for controlling an engine for a vehicle is provided to stably keep the idle state of the engine by changing the conditions for open learning and learning time of a throttle valve when ignition is on. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling an engine for a vehicle comprises the steps of: determining whether ignition is on after power supply is supplied to the vehicle(S110); determining whether the condition for the open learning of a throttle valve is satisfied; changing the condition for learning time when the ignition is on; and determining whether the engine is in idle state.
