PURPOSE: A data recording method for an optical disc is provided to carry out the write of data on a new optical disc while varying a selected default write strategy according to the characteristics of the optical disc, thereby improving the quality of the written data. CONSTITUTION: A data recording method for an optical disc includes the steps of discriminating a manufacturing company of an optical disc(S10-S11), selecting a default write strategy if no information is stored for the manufacturing company(S12-S13), and properly varying the default recording manner on the bases of recording characteristics of the optical disc during the writing, wherein an optical power value for the optimum writing is detected by carrying out the optimum power control for a test area of the optical disc at the request of data writing(S20-S21), and the writing operation is carried out by the detected optimum value and the selected default writing strategy(S22).
