PURPOSE: To attain satisfied waveform equalization coping with the difference in the playback signal characteristics of a land part and a groove part in an optical disk for performing high density recording using a land/groove recording system. CONSTITUTION: This player is provided with a playback means 102, an analog/ digital circuit 103 for sampling the playback signal to a multi-bit digital signal, a filter 105 for performing digital equalization to the multi-bit digital signal, a filter coefficient learning means 106 for performing adaptive control so that the equalization error of the filter coefficient of the filter 105 is minimized in each of the land part and groove part, and a changeover signal producing means 107 for producing the signal for changing over the land/groove. The filter coefficient is used by changing over for the land and the groove.
