PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-disc brake for an automatic transmission capable of reducing bouncing sound generated between a transmission case and a friction plate and restricting generation of abnormal sound, by optimizing a circumferential gap between a spline groove in the transmission case and an outer circumferential claw on the friction plate without requiring special parts. SOLUTION: This multi-disc brake for an automatic transmission is provided with the friction plate 14 comprising the outer circumferential claw 14a to be engaged with the spline groove 6a provided at an inner circumferential part of the transmission case 6, and a friction disc comprising an inner circumferential claw to be engaged with a spline groove provided in an outer circumferential part of a rotary member. By friction and pressure contact between the friction plate and the friction disc, braking force is given to the rotary member. The circumferential gap between the outer circumferential claw on the friction plate and the spline groove in the transmission case is set to be 3.5 mm or more.
