PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cemented carbide cutting tool excellent in surface lubricity. SOLUTION: This cutting tool comprises a lubrication coated layer deposited physically on the surface of a tool base body comprising tungsten carbide base cemented carbide alloy or titanium carbonitride base cermet. This lubrication coated layer comprises (a) a carbide layer, a nitride layer and a carbonitride of Ti as a substrate layer, (b) a compound nitride layer of Ti and Al and a compound carbonitride layer of Ti and Al satisfying X: 0.1 to 0.7, and Y: 0.5 to 0.99, which are measured by a scanner type electron microscope when they are expressed by composition formulas, (Ti1- XAlX)N and (Ti1- XAlX)C1- YNY as a lower layer, and (c) a compound oxide layer of Zr and M satisfying m: 0.01 to 0.1 and n: 1.7 to 2.3 to a compound ratio of Zr/M, which are obtained by measuring the center section of a cross section in depth direction by means of an Auger spectral analysis device when it is expressed by a composition formula, (Zr1-m Mm )On (M shows one kind or two or more kinds of element out of Ti, V, Nb and Ta) as an upper layer.
