PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparingα-alumina capable of heat treating alumina to transform it intoαstructure under low temperature. SOLUTION: A liquid substance, prepared by adding respectively 5 wt.% of lactic acid, gluconic acid, malic acid, glycolic acid, propionic acid and acetic acid as organic carboxylic acids to an aqueous solution of basic aluminum chloride, is heated and dried under a condition of about 60 deg.C. Thereby,α-alumina is prepared by heating the obtained composite gel in the atmosphere at about 600 deg.C.
