METHOD FOR PRODUCING DIHYDRIC PHENOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a dihydric phenol in high yield by a highly active acid catalyst causing no corrosion, and oxidizing a monohydric phenol with a peroxide (e.g. hydrogen peroxide or a ketone peroxide) in the presence of a ketone and phosphoric acid. SOLUTION: The dihydric phenol is produced in high yield by using β-zeolite as the catalyst by oxidizing the monohydric phenol with the oxide (e.g. the hydrogen peroxide or the ketone peroxide) in the presence of the ketone and the phosphoric acid.
