METHOD FOR PRODUCING METHACRYLIC ESTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing methyl methacrylate by recovering methanol from a catalytically decomposed product of methyl-t-butyl ether and re-utilizing the recovered methanol. SOLUTION: Methanol is recovered by distillation from a reaction mixture obtained by distilling isobutylene away from the catalytically decomposed reaction mixture of methyl-t-butyl ether. The methanol is reacted in the presence of an esterification catalyst with methacrolein or methacrylic acid obtained by carrying out catalytic vapor phase oxidation of the isobutylene to produce methyl methacrylate.
