PURPOSE: A brake system of a washing machine is provided to simply control a clearance between a brake pad and a brake drum by withdrawing or inserting a movable element with respect to a first supporting holder according to the size of a clearance by using a slider. CONSTITUTION: A brake system of a washing machine includes a brake disposed below a dehydration tub(4) for braking the dehydration tub, a cable(51) connected between the brake and a cover of the dehydration tub for driving the brake as the cover is opened, and a clearance control element mounted at a side of the cable for controlling a clearance of the brake, wherein the cable penetrates a first supporting holder(56) mounted to the dehydration tub and a second supporting holder mounted to the brake to be stably supported by the holders, a guide tube(58) is mounted between the first and second holders for keeping the tension of the cable and guiding the cable toward the brake, and the clearance control element is a slider(60) vertically slidably fitted in a guide hole(56a) of the first supporting holder for controlling the clearance between a brake drum and a brake pad. |
