PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing fluoropolyethers having a terminal group having one chlorine atom on one hand and a terminal group of-CH2 OH on the other by a controllable method with high yield and high selectivity. SOLUTION: The method for producing fluoropolyoxyalkylenes having structure (I): T-O-[CF2 CF(CF3 )O]n-1 -[CF(CF3 )O]m -CF2 -CH2 OH (wherein T is a 1-3C perfluroalkyl containing one chlorine atom; n is an integer of 1-15; m/n is 0-0.5; and m+n comes to a moiety having a number average molecular weight in the range of 280-4,000) comprises (a) slowly adding a metal hydride as the mixture with a solvent to an ester precursor substance having structure (II): T-O-[CF2 CF(CF3 )O]n-1 -[CF(CF3 )O]m -CF2 -COOR (wherein R is a 1-20C alkykl, an aromatic, a cycloalkyl or a residue of a heterocycle and (b) hydrolyzing the reaction mixture obtained in step (a) with an acidic aqueous solution, and then separating the obtained compound of structure (I) from the organic phase.
