A slide glass, characterized in that it has a surface treatment layer formed thereon, the layer preferably comprising diamond, a diamond-like carbon or the like, and is capable of carrying oligonucleotide probes or the like on the surface thereof; and a method for analyzing a gene, characterized as analyzing a gene through carrying the gene on the surface of the above slide glass having a surface treatment layer formed thereon. The method for analyzing a gene is almost free from the problem that a spot having an organism sample such as DNA or a protein attached thereto is often unclear and difficult to observe.
