摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anisotropic scattering film having high transmittance and excellent scattering intensity and a liquid crystal display device of high luminance using the anisotropic scattering film. SOLUTION: [I] The anisotropic scattering film consists of a porous film with micro pores and an anisotropic substance existing in the micro pores and having a refractive index different from that of the porous film and having scattering anisotropy with respect to a polarized light component, and the anisotropic scattering film is characterized by having the porous film of which the shape of the micro pores observed on the film surface is essentially elliptical, the ratio of the major axis diameter to the minor axis diameter of the ellipse (major axis/minor axis) is larger than 1, the minor axis diameter is shorter than the wavelength of the used light and the directions of the major axes of the micro pores are essentially aligned in one direction. [II] The liquid crystal display device comprises a liquid crystal panel having a polarizing plate at least on the surface side, the anisotropic scattering film described in [I], a light transmission plate and a reflection plate or a scattering reflection plate arranged in this order, in which the transmission axis of the liquid crystal panel and the transmission axis of the anisotropic scattering film are made to essentially coincide with each other.
