PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder with a simple, low-cost sheet tray having a sheet-bundle supporting function equivalent to those of conventional trays and having an area of projection that remains unchanged when auxiliary guides are stored. SOLUTION: The paper feeder has the sheet tray 1 equipped with the auxiliary trays 3 and 4 used as necessary to match large sheet sizes. The auxiliary trays 3 and 4 form a pair in a direction perpendicular to the direction of sheet conveying on the sheet tray 1, with the rear ends of the auxiliary trays held against both rear ends of the sheet tray 1, and are stored as they intersect each other within the area of projection of the sheet tray 1. The pair of auxiliary guides 3 and 4 are equal in shape and each constructed of a rotating part 31 and an intersecting support part 32, and each intersecting support part 32 comprises a U-shaped part and an insertion part and is given different levels in the direction of extension of the insertion part so that the intersecting support parts overlap when in intersecting positions. The pair of auxiliary guides are mounted so that the rotating parts and the intersecting parts of the intersecting support parts are at the same level as the sheet tray.
