摘要 <p>Involves using spectrometer to take two sets of measurements in grid of measuring space, with orthogonal optical axes between each set, and integrating individual measurements to determine measurement for whole gas volume. The method involves setting geometrically defined and reproducible observation planes, which are each perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of a gas plume (22) to be monitored. A number, m, of spectral measurements are made in a first measurement range, where the optical axis of a spectrometer (21) always lies in an observation plane, with a parallel displacement between each measurement along a first path. A number, n, of measurements are made in a second range, with the optical axis perpendicular to the first range and in the observation plane, with parallel displacements along a second path. The optical axes are arranged in the observation plane to produce two orthogonal ray sets, which form a grid with m x n voxels, whose size is determined from the geometry. The data sets are used to obtain the spectral transmission or optical density, which is integrated over the gas volume in the visual field of the spectrometer. An Independent claim is included for a device for performing the method.</p>
