PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polymer which is obtained by polymerizing an olefinically unsaturated compound by using an alkyllithium as a polymerization initiator, is substantially free from residual lithium- containing compounds originating in the alkyllithium, and has good transparency. SOLUTION: In a method for obtaining a polymer by polymerizing an olefinically unsaturated compound in a hydrocarbon solvent by using an alkyllithium as a polymerization initiator and removing lithium-containing compounds from the polymer solution, the polymer solution after the stop of polymerization is treated with a carbon dioxide gas and thereafter is filtered, or the polymer solution after the stop of polymerization is treated with a carbon dioxide gas, is washed with water after or simultaneously with the treatment, and is filtered.
