PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the oxygen concentration in a liquid phase containing an alkyl aromatic compound to produce an aromatic carboxylic acid by feeding oxygen gas into the liquid phase containing an alkyl aromatic compound to oxidize an alkyl group. SOLUTION: An electric potential of the liquid phase is measured and the oxygen concentration is controlled based on the measured result.
