In forming a structural framework such as a roof truss, chord members 70,72,74, are supported on pedestals 52, and struts, e.g. of metal, 10 are fixed to the chords, which may be of wood, as by screwing through an aperture in strut 10. The struts have a protruding barb or the like on a bent end tab, and the pedestals 52, e.g. as represented by the apex pedestal (Fig 10) have clamps 58 to hold the chords in position and markings 62 indicating the ideal fixing line for the screws and tolerance lines 60, 64 either side, so that when strut 10, say, has been attached to lower chord 74 on line 62, it can be bent so as to bring its other end into contact with chord 72, with lines 60, 64, indicating the extreme allowable positions of the fixing at the other end of the strut, and the protruding barb holding it there until a proper fixing has been inserted.
