PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer using a roll paper which surely discharges a cut paper cut and separated from the roll paper, prevents the cut paper from contacting a carriage when the carriage having a rotating blade after cutting the paper returns to a home position, and prevents a pressing roller from being positioned to the inside of a printing region by returning a leading end of the paper to the vicinity of the pressing roller at a printing standby time. SOLUTION: The printer using the roll paper is provided with a paper 11 comprising the roll paper, a thermal head 16 capable of printing desired images to the paper 11 by transferring the paper from a paper load 12, and a paper cutter 17 capable of cutting the paper 11 to a predetermined length. The paper 11 after printing is transferred by a predetermined length to the downstream side from the paper cutter 17 in a transfer direction from the paper load 12 towards the thermal head 16, and cut by the paper cutter 17. The leading end 11d of the paper 11 generated new by the cutting is further transferred to the downstream side. The cut paper M separated from the paper 11 is pressed and discharged in this manner.
