PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aqueous coating material suitable for DIY purpose (do it yourself, Sunday home carpentry) by improving its levelling property without reducing its special characteristics of low inflammability and friendliness towards the environment and human bodies. SOLUTION: This aqueous coating material is characterized in that its levelling property is improved by the addition of ethylene carbonate, and which is obtained by adding at least one selected from the group consisting of ethylene carbonate and a water-compatible organic solvent to an aqueous coating material.
