PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which is of a thin type and is free of luminance unevenness and to provide the liquid crystal display device which is capable of setting the temperature optimum for the higher luminance of a lamp, does not depend on environmental temperatures and is capable of assuring the stable luminance. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device has a pair of L-shaped lamp light sources, a light transmission plate having translucency to guide the light from the L-shaped lamp light sources to a liquid crystal display unit, a reflection sheet for condensing the light from the L-shaped lamp light sources to the light transmission plate, a metallic chassis for holding the light transmission plate and the reflection sheet and a resin cabinet for fixing the light transmission plate and the reflection sheet to the metallic chassis. The four corners of the light transmission plate have notched parts and projecting parts are formed at the four corners of the metallic chassis. The light transmission plate and the metallic chassis are positioned by engaging the light transmission plate and the projecting parts. Further, the device has a temperature detector for detecting the ambient temperature of the environment and the temperature is most adequately controlled with the driving current of the L-shaped lamp light sources, and cooling fan, etc., by the signal of the temperature detector.
